OVERVIEW Before the introduction of the Compass™ Stainer, ThinPrep® with Imaging for small and mid-sized laboratories required a large footprint staining device that made inefficient use of valuable bench space. Laboratory managers were forced to make difficult trade-offs when allocating resources. Hologic® solved this issue by developing the Compass Stainer to enable laboratories of all sizes to choose ThinPrep with Imaging for a technological advancement in the detection of cervical disease. The Compass Stainer is CE marked, and is validated for the ThinPrep® Imager stain protocol. The Compass Stainer is a standalone, bench top, automated system designed for staining pathology specimens mounted on microscope slides, and particularly, ThinPrep-processed cytological specimens. The stainer contains 24 reagent stations and can store up to 15 staining protocols. Protocol 1 will be a default program. Protocols 2-15 can be programmed by the user. Each staining protocol may have up to 35 steps.
